If You’re Interested in Nonprofit Technology And/Or Social Media…
While sitting in on a NTEN ask-the-expert session with social media guru (though he simply likes to say he advises people) Chris Brogan, it occurred to me that I do seem to have a decent list of blogs that I enjoy reading that some others in the room seemed not to be aware of. I had a couple back-channel chats and shared a few links, and thought that it might be just as well to keep the list in one spot so I could refer to it later if ever the need presented itself again.
If you’re already pretty keyed into the nonprofit social networking/social media scene, this will probably all be old news to you. But I’m putting it out there for my own reference, and for any other explorers who might find their way to me (unlikely, but it could happen…) before finding their way to the nptech stars. By no means is this an exhaustive list; in fact, while writing this post, I realized I do not have enough time even to include the majority of my list, so I have had to pick the top 5 (in choosing, I tried to pick from what I’ve been reading the longest). I haven’t presented them in any order.
Beth’s Blog: How Nonprofits Can Use Social Media. Beth Kanter is one of the people who, in my mind, I have given the title of nptech star. She is everywhere, and with good reason. From what I have seen, Beth is very active, practices what she preaches, and is a great communicator.
NTEN: News From the NTEN Connect Blog. It’s full of learning opportunities, intriguing questions, news- obviously- and truly useful tips & tools.
ext337. Marnie Webb has a great series, 52 Weeks to Social Change: Using the Social Web to Make Good Things Happen, going on her blog. I haven’t necessarily been able to do these things, but no matter! You can start any time- the posts will be there.
Amy Sample Ward’s Version of NPTech. Amy is great at identifying key points and asking questions to really make you think and encourage discussion. Incidentally, she is away on a vacation at the moment so her blog will be dark for a bit should you head over there soon, but don’t worry- she is also very active and will undoubtedly be back at the keyboard in no time!
Zen and the Art of Nonprofit Technology. Michelle Murrain, another nptech star, is a coordinator for the Nonprofit Open Source Initiative- among other things- and as such shares excellent information around open source technologies (again, among other things).
So there you go! Go forth and read, subscribe to feeds, be happy. Speaking of feeds, here’s a link to my shared items.
(If I ever get better at using WordPress, maybe I’ll even put a widget in my sidebar so you can subscribe to my shared items there.)
